Principal Spotlight

Hello, Hawks and Hawk Families;
Oregon High School is a wonderful place to learn and grow.  We are proud to live out our district mission statement every day "educate students to be life-long learners who are productive, responsible citizens".  In addition to this, we are hopeful that every single student who attends OHS feels that they cared for and belong.

The four pillars of the Oregon Community Unit School District provide us with a framework and guidance for all we aspire to at OHS.  The first of these pillars is academics.  For a school our size, we offer a wide range of academic opportunities including a strong core academic curriculum, honors options, Advanced Placement courses and dual credit courses in collaboration with local community colleges.  Students can take many different electives including band, choir, visual arts, agriculture education, industrial technology, welding, Project Lead the Way (computer science) and Spanish.

The second pillar of our district is activities.  We encourage all students to get involved in some sort of an activity while they are at OHS.  We offer something for every interest including athletics and clubs.  If students are not interested in athletics, we have a strong band and choir program.  We are offer theatre and have a fall play and spring musical every year.  We have a wide range of clubs varying from Student Council to International Club to Archery, Gaming Club and even Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA).  We strive to make sure we provide opportunities for our students to be involved.

The third pillar of OCUSD is service.  We encourage our students to understand how important, and fulfilling, it is to provide service to others.  We commit two days per year to community wide service projects and the entire school participates.  In addition to these days, our athletic teams also commit to a service project carried out by the teams throughout the school year.  Students can submit their community service hours completed outside of the school day to be awarded the honor of Silver Service upon graduation.  In addition service hours are part of an overall honor of Premier Scholar.  Over the past year, students have volunteered over 5000 hours to their communities.  We are very proud of this.

Lastly, we encourage the pillar of leadership.  We want every student to find their unique leadership abilities and apply them both in and out of the classroom.  Our commitment to leadership is further emphasized by our implementation of the Leader In Me.  The Leader in Me is a social emotional, leadership program that grows students inter and intra-personal leadership skills through alignment with the 7 Habits of Highly Successful People.  We believe that every, single Hawk is a leader; some just may take longer to find their leadership traits and where to apply them.

I am honored to serve the students and community of Oregon High School.  We are committed to the success and well-being of all students and strive daily to help them grow and learn.
